Many times after opening abdomen for appendectomy I found hemoperitoneum. The causes I have found are....
1. Ruptured corpus leuteal cyst
2. Menstrual blood if ot is done during period or immediately after.
3. Ectopic pregnancy.
4. Rupture ovarian cyst.
5. Nothing.
After searching internet I found other causes.
1. Endometriosis
2. Coital injury to ovary
3. Hemophilia
4.abdominal pregnancy.
5.idiopathic
Treatment is of the cause when found. Otherwise suction of blood and leaving a drain in peritoneal cavity does the job. When appendectomy is done it becomes little confusing to understand whether blood is coming from operated site or peritoneal cavity. It is better to pack the surrounding with mop and observe the operated area for bleeding.
Recovery is uneventful in all cases.
